TIPS TO REMEMBER

  • Start by eating soft foods such as scrambled eggs, mashed potatoes, soups, or cottage cheese as you get used to your new dentures. Breads can be difficult to adjust to eating because they become sticky while chewing.

  • Be careful with hot foods and drinks, especially with dentures that cover the roof of the mouth. This can lessen the awareness of the hot temperature and you don’t want to scald the back of your throat.

  • Try your best to break your bite of food into two pieces and chew simultaneously on both sides of your mouth. This will help maintain the stability and balance of the dentures.

  • Avoid chewing gum, it can stick to your dentures and be hard to clean.

  • Lower dentures are not held in place with suction, rather by the muscles of the lips, tongue, and cheeks so it will not feel as secure as your upper denture. It can take longer to adjust to a complete lower denture compared to a complete upper denture.

  • Even simple things, like a change in body weight can effect the fit of your denture. If you notice a significant change in the fit of your denture, for any reason, contact your Denturist to discuss options available to remedy the situation.
