Relines

Denture Reline - Copy.jpeg
  • After tooth loss, jawbone and gum tissue shrink and resorb back into the body causing your dentures to feel bigger and looser. The rate of shrinkage is unpredictable. Loose dentures can be uncomfortable, make it difficult to chew, and may cause irritation or sore spots in the mouth.

  • Relines are done by adding new acrylic to the inside of the denture, in order to fill any gaps between the denture and your gums, resulting in the denture feeling tighter and being more stable and retentive in the mouth.

  • The material used in a reline is the same hard, pink acrylic that your denture is made of, and is a permanent change to the denture.

  • Relines can be done in 2 ways:

    • Chairside Relines: Appointments are booked for 60 minutes and are done while you wait. You do not have to leave your denture at the office for any additional time. Chairside relines are recommended for complete upper and lower dentures only.

    • Lab Processed Relines: Recommended for partial dentures and some complete dentures. Impressions are taken in the denture and it is left at the office for the reline to be done in the on-site lab. The relined denture can be picked up approximately 24 hours later.

  • Relining a denture does not change its appearance. This is a solution to improve the fit of the denture only.

  • Continue to care for and clean your denture as normal.
