Immediate Dentures

-
Immediate dentures are recommended when there are remaining natural teeth that are scheduled to be extracted, and you don’t want to go without teeth while healing.
-
Immediate dentures are made before your teeth are extracted and inserted at your extraction appointment.
-
Immediate dentures tend to feel quite big and bulky quite quickly as bone shrinkage occurs with healing. This means that the denture may need to be relined after a period of time.
-
Denture adhesive may be required while healing, as the bone shrinkage during healing is unpredictable.
-
Immediate dentures come with some risks due to the fact that it is made without the traditional try-in appointment. The risk lies in the inability to see how the denture fits, functions, and looks before it is finished.
-
A new set of dentures is sometimes recommended after 12 months, after healing is fully completed. This is determined on a case-by-case basis.
